Bernard Stephen Clinton
August 31, 1943 - October 29, 2024
After a long and full life, Bernard Stephen Clinton found his well-deserved rest on October 29, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Bernard was born on August 31st, 1943, at the family home in Souris River to Bernard and Mary Matilda (nee MacAulay). This same home would see him raised alongside his five siblings, see him and his loving wife Marlene (nee Cheverie) raise five children of their own, and see them entertain many grandchildren, extended family members, and friends. For over 55 years, Bernard and Marlene built a life in Souris River that showed dedication to their community and their family. A man of few words, Bernard could be counted on to love quietly. Through many years of marriage, his commitment to his life partner through ups and downs of life was borne through an undercurrent of patience and persistence. As a father and grandfather, Bernard was so proud to share his love of his trade, sports, and his community with his five children and seventeen grandchildren. His stories of their accomplishments spoke volumes, for a man of few words, but his dependable presence through their successes and failures showed his stalwart kind of love. Bernard was predeceased by his parents and brothers Gerald and Terry Clinton. His life is celebrated by his wife Marlene, his sisters, his children, grandchildren, and many extended family members. Sisters, Pat Clinton, Fran (Chester) Gillan, and Elaine (Jerry) Blanchard, and sisters-in-law Helen and Janet Clinton. Children, Stephen (Peggy), Kelee (Jackie) Hebert, Cherie (Jeffrey) Chapman, Shelley (Scott) Christian and Marla (Andrew) Clinton. Grandchildren, Anna, Maria, Allee, Brett, Brandon, Halee, Keesha, Aleesha, Rebecca, Alex, Julia, Rory, Helena, Temika, Breea, Draven and Evie. Bernard had the opportunity to work alongside many tradespeople over the past 50+ years in the construction industry. He was proud of the company he built first with his uncle, Eugene MacAulay and then with his son, Stephen. He loved what he did and that was evident in that he continued working in the industry until he couldn’t anymore. A sincere thank you to his clients and most importantly the staff of B. Clinton Construction for all the support over the years. To the staff of the Souris Hospital and all the health care workers. The care that Bernard and his family received as his health declined was professional, full of respect for human life and dignity. Thank you for your care and compassion throughout it all. To his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays, he’ll be cheering from above…it’s been a long time since 1967 for the Leafs; but like his entire life, he remained supportive and cheering that good times would come. Resting at Dingwell Funeral Home where visiting hours will take place on Sunday, November 3, 2024, from 3-6pm. A funeral Mass will be held at the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Souris on Monday, November 4, 2024, at 10:00am with interment to follow in the church cemetery. If so desired, donations in memory of Bernard can be to the Souris Minor Hockey Association.
