    May 11, 1943 - September 13, 2024

    Peacefully at the Souris Hospital on Friday, September 13, 2024, James Andrew MacDonald passed away surrounded by much love and with family at his side. Born on May 11, 1943, he was in his 82nd year, and lived his life in Chepstow, PEI. James is survived by his dear wife Theresa and will be forever loved by his daughter Sharon Lahey (Gerry) and grandson Kieran. He will be deeply missed by his siblings Frances, Helen, and Kenneth (Joan). In addition, James is fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. Predeceased by his parents Andrew and Mae, and siblings Alfred (Eva), Jean, Isabelle (Luke), and Rose (Joe), niece Gail, along with brothers-in-law Alex and Bill. Resting at Dingwell Funeral Home where visiting hours will take place on Monday, September 16, 2024, from 4-7pm. A graveside service for family and friends will be held at the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church Cemetery, Souris, on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 11:00am. A reception for everyone will follow at the Souris Legion (56 Main Street). If so desired, donations in memory of James can be made to the Eastern Kings Health Foundation.

    September 20, 1960 - September 13, 2024

    It is with sadness, and heavy hearts, the family of Rollin Shayne Jenkins, announce his passing which occurred with family by his side at the Kings County Memorial Hospital, Montague, on Friday, September 13, 2024. Born on September 20, 1960, he was aged 63 years of Little Pond, PE. He leaves behind his loving wife and best friend Louise (nee MacRae), and is survived by his three precious daughters, Jessica, Lilly, and Gabrielle. He will also be missed by his grandson Kole MacDougall, best friend Bruce Kennedy and his loyal companion Jango. Rollin will be lovingly remembered by his siblings Doris (Helen; deceased), Bobby (Lorena; deceased), Carl (Mary), Peggy, and Ivan (Frances). In addition, he is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Predeceased by his parents Preston and Susie (nee Mallard), grandmother Mary Anne (Mace) and grandnephew Rollin Maracle. Resting at Dingwell Funeral Home, where visiting hours will take place on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, from 5-8pm. A graveside service will be held on Rollin’s birthday, Friday, September 20, 2024, at 3:00pm in the Annandale Cemetery. If so desired, donations in memory of Rollin can be made to the Community Outreach Center.

    March 25, 1969 - September 7, 2024

    It is with great sadness and heavy hearts, the family of Paul Louis Carter, announce his passing which occurred suddenly in Souris, PE, on Saturday, September 7, 2024. Born on March 25, 1969, he was aged 55 years. Paul will be deeply missed and loved by his father Louis, and sister Sheri. He will also be lovingly remembered by his niece Jayde (Jagpreet) and great nephew Jackson. Predeceased by his dear mother Reta Carter. Paul was a fisherman his whole life, he loved the water and everything that came along with being a fisherman. You were more likely to find him aboard the boat or in the building at the wharf than anywhere else. He lived his life to the fullest and loved his family like no other. He may have looked like a big grump, but he truly was the biggest, softest teddy bear. The family would like to thank all the fisherman and women who have showed up with their love and support during this difficult time. By personal request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Interment will take place at a later date in the Souris West Union Cemetery, Souris, PE. If so desired, donations in memory of Paul can be made to the Souris and Area Branch of the PEI Wildlife Federation.

    James "Jimmy" Bernard MacDonald

    May 16, 1947 - September 4, 2024

    It is with sadness the family of James “Jimmy” MacDonald announce his passing which occurred peacefully in his sleep at home on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. Born to the late Bernard and Frances MacDonald on May 16, 1947, he was aged 77 of Bear River, PE. Jimmy is survived by his loving brothers Everett, Clifford, Ray, Ken (Lynda), Ron, Allan (Sara), and sister Ida (Rob). He will also be remembered by his brother-in-law Ron Robitaille and sister-in-law Elaine MacDonald along with numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brother Les, sisters Geraldine, and Edna, along with sister-in-law Joanne and Helen. Resting at Dingwell Funeral Home where visiting hours will take place on Sunday, September 8, 2024, from 4:00pm-6:00pm. Following the visitation, a Knights of Columbus prayer service will take place. All members are encouraged to attend. A funeral mass will be held at the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Souris on Monday, September 9, 2024, at 11:00am with interment to follow in the St. Alexis Roman Catholic Church Cemetery, Rollo Bay. If so desired, donations in memory of Jimmy can be made to St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, or the Eastern Kings Health Foundation (Souris Hospital).

    July 27, 1930 - September 3, 2024

    The death occurred peacefully at the Souris Hospital on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, after a lengthy illness of Anna Mae Mullally (nee MacLean) of Souris, and East Point, PEI. Born to the late Alexis and Mary Catherine MacLean on July 27, 1930, she was aged 94 years. She is predeceased by her husband Paul Hughes Mullally and her siblings Mary Ellen, Danny, and Jean MacLean. Also predeceased by sisters-in-law, Peggy Mullally, Paulette Mullally and brother-in-law David Mullally. Anna Mae is survived by her special cousin Marie (Mossey) Roman and special neighbor and friend Rose Cheverie. Also survived by brothers-in-law, Dunstan “Vince” (Theresa), Desmond (Rose Ann), Anthony (Joan), William (Kathleen), Joseph (Mary Alice), Michael, and sister-in-law Marie Mullally. Anna Mae grew up on the MacLean family farm in East Point. In her youth she moved to Massachusetts to work where she met her dear husband, Paul. They were married in St. Columba July 5, 1969. After two years, they relocated back to Charlottetown, PEI. In later years after her husband’s passing, she returned to the family farm to recuperate from surgery and went on to be caregiver to her sister and brother who were in ill health until they passed. She stayed on to live on the family property after their passing. She loved the land, the ocean shore, and all animals especially her dog. She kept in touch with her many family and friends and loved to go out for drives and a meal. She was a member of East Point Women’s Institute and St. Columba CWL Eastern Unit. Over the years she helped out many of our families by babysitting, cooking meals and housekeeping. She also was devout in her faith. If anyone needed a prayer, she was there for them. Rest in peace dear Anna Mae. Thank You to the Home Care Staff, Meals on Wheels Program and their volunteers; Dr. Bronaugh and Dr. Malone; the precious and astute Nursing and Auxiliary staff care of the Souris Hospital; the Woodland Community Care, for all of your kind attention to Anna Mae in her declining months. Resting at Dingwell Funeral Home where visiting hours will take place on Monday, September 9, 2024, from 6-8pm. A funeral mass will be held at the St. Columba Roman Catholic Church, Fairfield, on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at 2:00pm. Interment will follow in the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church Cemetery, Souris. If so desired, donations in memory of Anna Mae can be made to the St. Mary’s or the St. Columba Cemetery Fund.

    March 16, 1935 - August 31, 2024

    It is with sadness, the family of Winston Ames Young announce his passing which occurred peacefully and with family by his side at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Charlottetown, PE, on Saturday, August 31, 2024. Born to the late Washington and Kathryn Young on March 16, 1935, he was aged 89 years of Kingsboro, PE. Winston was a loving partner to Poppy Humphrey and a caring father of the late Mark (Michelle), Wade (Sheila), Kathryn (Mark), and Debra (Paul). He will be remembered as a caring grampa to Vaughn, Jake, Elisha (Tyler), Kay, Audrey (Legion), Marian, Jag, William, Rachel (Mitchell), Olivia, Dylan (Amanda) and great grampa of Adaline, Damon, Atlas, and Lirael. In addition, he is survived by his sister Amy Young and the late Roma Young. Dad will be missed by his nieces, nephews, especially Denise, Michelle, Tara and Rob, cousins, neighbours and friends. Also fondly remembered by the Lambert family. Winston was born on Young’s Hill and went to school in Kingsboro. He worked locally on neighbouring farms before leaving PEI to join his father in Kingston, Ontario and pursue further education. He went to trade school in Toronto, where he became a machinist and mechanic. He later returned to the homestead in Kingsboro with his family. Thank you to Megan Smallwood - Geriatric Program, the EMS of Charlottetown, Dr Wonnacott, Dr Biswas, Dr MacLaren, the nurses in emergency and Unit 3 and the Constant Care team who all provided exemplary care to dad and our family. Your kindness is appreciated. A visitation will take place at the Kingsboro Baptist Church on Thursday, September 5, 2024, from 10:00-11:00am. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held in the church at 11:30am. Interment will follow in the Kingsboro Cemetery. If so desired, donations in memory of Winston can be made to the Kingsboro Cemetery Fund, the South Lake Cemetery Fund, or the Eastern Kings Health Foundation (Souris Hospital).

    August 5, 1939 - August 29, 2024

    Peacefully at his residence in Souris on Thursday, August 29, 2024, the death occurred of Angus Bernard “Bernie” MacEachern. Born in Hermanville, PEI, on August 5, 1939, to the late Donald Francis and Mary Elizabeth, he was aged 85 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his brother Adolphus. Bernie is also survived by his nieces Marjorie Birt (Wayne), Joy Woodside (Wayne), great niece Shelby, great nephew Lee, along with many close friends and neighbours. Predeceased by his brothers Andrew, James, Hughie MacEachern (Esther), uncle Jimmy and great niece Jessica. Resting at Dingwell Funeral Home where a visitation will take place on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, from 1:00-2:15pm. Following the visitation, a funeral mass will be held at the St. Margaret’s Roman Catholic Church, St. Margarets, at 3:00pm. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. If so desired, donations in memory of Bernie can be made to the St. Margaret’s Cemetery Fund.

    September 23, 1948 - August 28, 2024

    Peacefully at the Beach Grove Home in Charlottetown on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, Judith Gertrude Tassell (nee Jenkins), passed away with her loving family by her side. Born to the late Jennie and Rand Jenkins on September 23rd, 1948, she was aged 75 years of Annandale, PE. Survived by her brother Randy Jenkins (Nicole deceased); sisters Laura Robertson (Glen); Pat MacDonald (Wendell); and Mary McDougall (Alan) as well as her loving son Charles. Predeceased by her brother Caleb. The family wished to acknowledge the wonderful care she received by the staff at Beach Grove Home and Geneva Villa. The kindness and compassion shown to her by the entire nursing staff is appreciated and will forever be remembered. A graveside committal service for family and friends will take place at the Annandale United Church Cemetery, Annandale. If so desired, donations in memory of Judy can be made to the PEI Humane Society or the Alzheimers Society of PEI. “As I held her hand just yesterday, she wouldn't let go there was no way. Listening as Pat, Mary, Charlie and I spoke, by the look in her eyes, not missing a note. It was a very hard thing to let go of her hand, she is with you now Lord, I know you understand. Part of our lives she will always be, a gift, a treasure now set free.”

    November 10, 1932 - August 24, 2024

    Peacefully at the Colville Manor in Souris on Saturday, August 24, 2024, Cecelia Anne MacInnis (nee Mackinnon), passed away with her loving family by her side. Born to the late Charles and Margaret MacKinnon on November 10, 1932, she was aged 91 years of St. Peters Bay, PE. She is predeceased by her husband Claude, and her two sons Brian and Arthur, and her siblings Joseph, Patrick, Kenneth (Helen), Mary, Edna (Vincent) Tobin, Sara, Louis, Harold (Mary), Daniel Faustenus (DF), and Victor. She will be remembered as a loving and supportive mother to Ronnie MacInnis, Daniel (Etta) MacInnis, Louis MacInnis, Edna (Harold) Miller, and Edith (Lefty) Dunn. Cecelia was a gentle and caring grandmother to Catherine (Patrick), Stephen, Ben, Emily, Matthew, Bethany (Matt), Hannah, Brian and Sara; and six loving great grandchildren. The family wish to acknowledge the wonderful care given to their mother during her time at the Perrins’ Villa Montague and Souris Hospital. Celia spent her last two years at Colville Manor Souris receiving exemplary care. Staff often went the extra mile in a kind and compassionate manner of which the family is very grateful. A visitation will take place at the Dr. Roddie Community Centre in St. Peters Bay on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, from 5-8pm. A funeral mass will be held at the St. Peter’s Bay Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 11:00am with interment to follow in the church cemetery. If so desired, donations in memory of Cecelia can be made to St. Peter’s Bay Roman Catholic Church Cemetery or the Eastern Kings Health Foundation (Colville Manor).

    April 27, 1965 - August 17, 2024

    Peacefully at the Kings County Memorial Hospital in Montague on Saturday, August 17, 2024, Edward Dockendorff passed away surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 27, 1965, he was aged 59 years of Souris, PE. Edward is survived by his beloved daughter Megan (Blake) MacLean, son Morgan (Alex), and granddaughter Willow MacLean. He will also be lovingly remembered by his special friend Patsy Morrison. In addition, he will be dearly missed by his brothers Gerard (Lorna), Chris (Lanna), Billy (Donna), sister Kathy, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Predeceased by his partner Maureen O’Reilly, brother David, and parents Cyril and Jean (nee McLaughlin) Dockendorff. The family would like to thank the staff at the Kings County Memorial Hospital and the Palliative Home Care Program in Souris for the wonderful care they provided during this difficult time. By personal request, there will be no public visitation or funeral service. If so desired, donations in memory of Edward can be made to the Kings County Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Dingwell Funeral Home has been part of the Souris community since 1912. In 2017, ownership of the funeral home proudly shifted from Gary Dingwell to a fellow Islander Nathaniel Lamoureux.

As a Souris native, and proudly bilingual, Nat, his wife Jill, and their two daughters are proud to carry on the Dingwell’s proud service to both the French and English communities of Souris as the oldest family-owned operation in Prince Edward Island.
